OUR WHY

There is a moment every working parent knows. The clock hits 2:45 and the quiet question surfaces: Who is with my child right now? Are they okay? Do they feel loved? Camp Club was built as the answer. When Vanessa Doak founded Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds, she understood something that most programs overlook: children don’t stop needing their family the moment the school bell rings. Those hours between 3:00 and 5:30 are not just hours to fill — they are hours that shape how a child understands their own worth. Are they rushed through a hallway and handed a snack? Or are they greeted with a warm hug and someone who genuinely wants to know how their day went? At Camp Club, it is always the second option. Always. Camp Club isn’t after-school care. It is an extension of your family during the hours you can’t be there. It carries the spirit and the soul of summer camp into every ordinary Tuesday in November, every grey Thursday in February. The children who pile off the HHHM camp party bus in Squamish are not going to a program — they are going to a place where they belong, led by people who love them like big sisters and brothers. They are heading somewhere that smells like adventure and feels like home. That is what Camp Club has always been. And after a year away, it is back — by the overwhelming demand of the families who never stopped asking for it. Camp = Family. Always.

CAMP CLUB VALUES

1. Every campfire needs a spark. We are the spark that lights up your child’s afternoon. We greet every camper with genuine energy, real smiles, and arms open wide — because enthusiasm is contagious, and children deserve to walk into a space that is visibly, unmistakably glad they arrived. 2. No trail worth walking is walked alone. Camp is about community. We build friendships that cross grades and comfort zones, because some of the best people in your child’s life will be the ones they met on a Tuesday afternoon in the Squamish forest. 3. Roots grow strong in the right soil. Children thrive when they feel emotionally safe. At Camp Club, we create the conditions for that safety — through intentional check-ins, thoughtful leadership, and a culture where vulnerability is met with warmth, not judgment. 4. Adventure is the best teacher. We believe that children learn who they are by doing — by hiking trails that challenge them, crafting things that don’t go exactly as planned, playing games that require them to collaborate and adapt. Every afternoon is a lesson disguised as a really good time. 5. Nature is always on the curriculum. Squamish is one of the most extraordinary outdoor classrooms on earth. We use it. Every day. Because children who grow up connected to nature grow up connected to themselves. 6. Home is a feeling, not just a place. Camp Club is not a building — it is a feeling. It is the feeling of being known, welcomed, and loved outside the walls of your actual home. We carry that feeling with us wherever we go, whether we are on a bus, on a trail, or building something beautiful together at the 'clubhouse' or 'den'.

OUR TEAM

MEET ARISSA: Every great camp has a heartbeat. At Camp Club, that heartbeat is Arissa. As one of HHHM’s newest full-time team members, Arissa brings something that cannot be trained or scripted — she brings presence. The kind that makes a kindergartner feel ten feet tall and a Grade 4 student feel seen. Families who have spent time around Arissa know what we mean: she walks into a room and the room gets warmer. She has the rare gift of meeting children exactly where they are — joyful or tired, confident or nervous — and making them feel that wherever they are is the perfect place to start. Arissa runs Camp Club afternoons with the warmth of a big sister, the creativity of someone who genuinely loves crafts and adventures, and the intentionality of a leader who understands that every small moment is an opportunity to build something lasting in a child’s life. She is not just the Camp Club lead. She is the reason kids cannot wait to get on the bus!

WHAT A CAMP CLUB AFTERNOON LOOKS LIKE

The school bell rings and something shifts in the air.

Because arriving to pick up your child is the cheerful, impossible to miss, impossible not to grin at — the HHHM camp party bus. And at the door is Arissa, radiating exactly the kind of energy that makes kids run, not walk.

The first thing that happens is a warm welcome. Not a perfunctory wave hello — an actual, you-matter-to-me welcoming greeting. And then a question. Not “how was school?” but something better. Something that opens a door: “What was the best part of your day?” or “Did anything surprise you today?” These are not small questions. They are invitations — to share, to process, to be witnessed. And for the child who had a hard day, that question can be everything, and to share in that with your camp club buddies is the icing on the 'support cake'.

The bus winds through Squamish and already the afternoon has begun to feel like something. Kids are laughing, comparing lunches they didn’t finish, and the energy is building because everyone knows: today is going to be good.

Some days, the bus heads to Smoke Bluffs — boulders and birches and a view that makes you feel small in the best possible way. Kids scramble and explore and discover things that no school lesson could have taught them. Other days it is Shannon Falls, and the roar of the water is so loud you have to lean into the person beside you to talk, which is exactly the point. Some afternoons it is deep in the local forest, sticks in hand, making something from nothing, which is also exactly the point.

Back at the clubhouse/den, there are crafts and games and the satisfying kind of mess that happens when creativity is running the show. There is laughter that carries. There is the particular joy of finishing something you made yourself.

And then — before the day ends — there is another moment of intention. A check-in. A breath. A reminder that the children in this space are cared for, seen, and loved.

By the time parents arrive for pickup, their children have lived an afternoon worth telling them about.

WHO CAMP CLUB IS FOR?

Camp Club is for the parents who know their child needs more than a place to sit after school. Who want their kids to be truly known during those hours — not managed, not supervised, not babysat. Who trust their instincts when they say: my child deserves to spend that time in community, in nature, and with people who genuinely love what they do.

Camp Club is for the families who live and breathe camp culture — who have seen what a summer at camp does for a child’s confidence, their friendships, their sense of self — and who have always wished they could bottle that feeling and bring it into the school year. Now they can.

Camp Club is for the kids who thrive when they have structure and freedom in equal measure. Who love being outside. Who come alive in groups. Who are building their identity one adventure at a time and need a space that says: you are exactly right, exactly as you are.

Camp Club is for Kindergarten through Grade 4, co-ed. Because the friendships children make at this age, and the confidence they build in these years, lay the foundation for everything that comes after.

Our Camp Director couldn't have said it better:

“We want our campers to feel like they are attending a program that is an extension of their loving family, during those times that they can’t be with their actual family. Like their big sisters and brothers!”

— Vanessa Doak, Founder, Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds
