Pronounced: Ker-enc-iA Day
Camp Summer sessions for ‘all-girl’ & ‘all-boy’ programming ages 8 to 12 years
By definition, Querencia is a place where one feels safe to be authentically themselves, a place from which one's strength of character is drawn, and where one is provided the environment to live up to their highest potentials.
This is the type of environment we strive to create at Camp Querencia! Our summer day camp intentionally creates a space where day-to-day distractions are taken out of the mix, allowing campers to forge deep connections with other girls/boys and experience the power of sisterhood/brotherhood. Free of any self-consciousness they might feel at school or in other social settings, Camp Querencia fosters an appreciation for community and gives campers a first-hand sense of what it feels like when we “raise each other up.” During our summer sessions, campers will start each day by building on our ‘cabin group’ relationships through team initiative activities, get creative with arts & crafts, and, on some days, set out on ‘off-site adventures’ to explore the beautiful Sea-to-Sky region.
Some of the ‘off-site’ activities our campers can expect to participate in are: hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, orienteering/geocaching and fishing to name a few. We are so lucky to live and play in one of the most beautiful places on earth, here in Squamish, that there aren’t enough hours in a day for all that we have planned for our campers this summer, no matter how hard we try! How lucky are we!?
On-site program activities include archery, group games, team initiatives, orienteering and artistic activities combined with purposeful group chats. In a supportive space, we intentionally provide our campers with a place to be open, broaden concepts of self-love, and increase opportunities for campers to gain leadership skills. We’ll discuss healthy relationships, anti-bullying, and the idea of 'paying it forward.' Under the mentorship of an experienced leader, the girls/boys will grow and learn together in 'cabin groups' of 8-10 campers. They will leave carrying a different set of ideals; with a boost in confidence; having made new qualitative friendships; and with a perspective they will take home with them – continuing the positive, influential ripple effect our leaders will have imprinted on them.
