CREATIVE KIDS
Creative Kids is building a community where every young maker in Squamish and beyond knows they have a home.
We envision a program that grows with its kids — a place where a grade 3 camper falls in love with macramé and a grade 8 student is teaching the stitch they perfected two years later. We see young artists developing genuine skills, real confidence, and deep friendships — the kind that form when you sit beside someone and make something together, session after session.
We see Creative Kids expanding: more sessions, more craft disciplines, special workshops, seasonal events, and eventually the kind of legacy program that alumni look back on as formative — as the place where they first understood what it meant to make something with love and see it through.
And we see Squamish knowing — fully, proudly — that in this town of adventurers, there is also a place for the makers.
That creative energy is its own kind of wild. Its own kind of brave.

OUR WHY
In a mountain town famous for its trails, rivers, and fearless outdoor adventurers, there is a quieter kind of courage — the kind that sits down with a length of cord, a jar of resin, or a spool of thread, and turns something ordinary into something extraordinary. Creative Kids was born for those kids. These are the children who linger at the craft table long after the others have run outside. The ones who feel most alive when there’s paint on their fingers, when the macramé knot finally holds, when the piece of jewelry they made for their mom makes her tear up. For years, programs in Squamish have celebrated the adventurer — and rightfully so. But Creative Kids stands up proudly and says: the maker matters just as much. The child who expresses themselves through what they build, what they colour, what they sew — they belong here. This is their place. Their sanctuary. It’s not your average craft session. This is a specialty program where kids dive deep into real crafts — resin art, macramé, painting, sewing, jewelry making — projects that take time, care, and genuine effort to complete. The kind of projects you frame. The kind you wear. The kind you keep forever and remember making.

CREATIVE KIDS VALUES
1. Every Masterpiece Starts With a Single Stitch Intentionality We teach kids that great things take time. There’s no rush here. No shortcuts. Specialty crafts — real ones — ask for patience, attention, and care. We celebrate beginners. We celebrate the try. Every session begins with the simple act of showing up and giving it a go, and that alone is something worth honouring. 2. The Right Colour Is Always Yours Self-Expression There is no wrong way to be creative. No “better” version of your idea. At Creative Kids, every child’s choices — the colours they pick, the patterns they choose, the direction their art takes — are celebrated as a unique expression of who they are. We don’t make cookie-cutter crafts. We make you crafts. 3. The Thread That Connects Us Community & Friendship Something magical happens when a group of kids sit side by side, hands busy, working on something they care about. Conversation flows. Laughter rises. Friendships form — the kind that feel easy, the kind that last. Creative Kids is as much a social experience as it is a creative one. We build community one craft project at a time. 4. The Piece You Finish Is the One You’ll Remember Pride & Completion We finish what we start. In a world of constant distraction, there is something deeply satisfying about seeing a project all the way through — and walking out the door with something you made from scratch. That feeling of completion builds confidence that carries far beyond The Den. 5. Good Energy In, Beautiful Things Out Mindfulness & Intention We believe energy matters. What you pour into your work, you see reflected back at you. We encourage kids to bring their good energy, their focus, and their heart to every project — and to notice how the act of making something slowly, carefully, and with love feels different from rushing. Creating with intention is a practice. We practise it here. 6. Your Art Is the Voice You Didn’t Know You Had Emotional Expression Sometimes feelings don’t have words. Sometimes the best way to process a hard day, a confusing emotion, or a big feeling is to make something. At Creative Kids, art is a safe and celebrated outlet for emotional expression. We don’t ask kids to explain what they’re feeling — we just give them beautiful materials and a safe space, and let their hands do the talking.

THE HEALTHY HEARTS CONNECTION
We believe creative energy is one of the most powerful forces a child carries inside them. At Creative Kids, we don’t treat art as an add-on — something to fill the gap between math class and dinner. We treat it as what it truly is: a language. A therapy. A superpower. When a child finishes a resin pour and holds it up to the light, watching the colours swirl together like something from another world — that is not just an art project. That is a child who just learned that patience creates beauty. That is a child who has proven to themselves that they can see something through from start to finish. That is a child whose shoulders drop a little, whose breath slows, whose nervous system — in a world of constant noise and motion — finally exhales. We create space for that exhale. In a culture that glorifies speed and big movement, Creative Kids celebrates slowness and precision. We honour the process as much as the product. We understand that when hands are busy making something meaningful, hearts have room to open — friendships form, worries quiet, and a quiet kind of joy takes over. This is the therapeutic power of making, and it is the beating heart of everything we do. Creative Kids is a sanctuary. Come as you are. Make something real. Leave proud.
What Kids Experience — A Session at Creative Kids
Step through the door of The Den and you’ll immediately feel it — the shift in energy. The soft music. The smell of paint and possibility. The tables set up with materials that look almost too beautiful to touch (until you do, and then you can’t stop).
Sessions at Creative Kids are warm, unhurried, and joyful. Kids arrive after school — maybe a little frazzled, maybe a little tired — and within minutes, something settles. Hands find materials. Conversations start. The project for the day takes shape.
One week it might be resin art — pouring colour into moulds and watching it swirl into something otherworldly.
Another week, macramé — learning knots that create structure from nothing but cord and patience.
There’s sewing, with the satisfaction of threading a needle and seeing stitches form.
Jewelry making, where a handful of beads becomes something someone will wear with pride.
Painting that isn’t rushed — that breathes.
Every project is a specialty craft. Nothing is throwaway. Nothing is half-done. Kids work on projects over multiple sessions when needed — because some things worth having take time.
Leaders support the process and move around the room, offering gentle guidance, celebrating each step, and making sure every child feels capable and seen. The vibe is collaborative — kids help each other, admire each other’s work, and cheer each other on.
Nobody is competing. Everyone is creating.
At the end of each session, kids pack up their work — finished or still in progress — with care. There’s a real sense of ownership over what they’re making. This isn’t the teacher’s project. This is theirs.
And when a project is finally finished? When the resin has cured, the knots are complete, the last stitch is sewn? That moment — of holding something beautiful that didn’t exist before you made it — is the whole point.
Who Creative Kids Is For:
For Kids...
Creative Kids is for the makers. The dreamers. The kids who’d rather spend a rainy afternoon at the craft table than anywhere else. The ones who love working with their hands, who get absorbed in projects, who feel most themselves when they’re in the middle of making something.
It’s for the kid who doesn’t always love team sports — but loves the quiet focus of a craft. The kid who feels a little out of place in a town full of extreme outdoor enthusiasts, and who needs to know that their way of engaging with the world is just as valid, just as cool, just as worth celebrating.
Creative Kids is co-ed and open to boys and girls in grades 3 through 8.
Whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush or you’ve been making things your whole life, you belong here.
For Parents
You know your child.
You know the one who lights up at a craft store.
The one who saves their birthday money for art supplies.
The one who comes home from school carrying a handmade card for every family member, who stays up too late finishing a project 'just because.'
Maybe your child is thriving, and you’re looking for a place that truly honours and develops their creative gifts. Or maybe they’re carrying some heaviness — the pressures of school, the complexity of friendships, the noise of the world — and you know that making things helps them decompress in a way that nothing else quite does.
Either way, Creative Kids is a safe, nurturing, beautifully run program where your child will be fully seen and celebrated. They’ll build skills, make friends, and come home carrying something they made with their own two hands — and a quiet kind of pride that’s very hard to manufacture any other way.
