SWING: Girls Leadership Program
Sisters Who Inspire Navigating Greatness — is a weekly after-school leadership program for girls in Grades 1 through 6. It is one of the most personal programs Healthy Hearts has ever built, born from the same conviction that has guided every camp, every retreat, every workshop we have led for two decades:
Girls change the world. But first, girls need each other.
Not through a screen. Not through a like or a DM or a carefully curated story. In person. In community. Shoulder to shoulder, week after week, through the kind of shared experience that builds something screens never can:
Sisterhood that lasts.

OUR WHY
Vanessa launched SWING because summer camp — with its magic of instant belonging, its adventures and check-ins and late-night talks — shouldn’t be something girls can only access for two weeks in July. The connections that change a girl’s life, that make her feel less alone in the hardest years of growing up — those should be available all year long. “Summer camp offers our girls such a beautiful opportunity to come together and have fun while learning leadership skills, strengthening their sisterhood and in turn support systems,” Vanessa says. “SWING is a beautiful reminder of how important it is to ‘be the change.’ I just LOVE having the opportunity to be that reminder for our girls and a safe place for them to come together on a weekly basis all year long.” This is not just a program. It is a standing invitation. A door that is open every single week, waiting for your daughter to walk through it and remember who she is. Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds was built on a single conviction: emotional health is the foundation of everything else. Before a girl can lead, she needs to know her own heart. Before she can advocate for others, she needs to feel safe enough to speak for herself. Before she can navigate the world with courage, she needs a community that has practiced courage alongside her. SWING is the year-round, weekly expression of that vision. It is the sisterhood inside the same philosophy that guides HHHM’s overnight retreats, its leadership programs, its day camps. The same belief in adventure, in vulnerability, in the extraordinary things that happen when girls are given a space worthy of who they are. SWING brings the camp experience home. Not as a replacement for summer camp — camp remains one of the most transformative experiences a child can have. But as a continuation of it. The same magic, the same connection, the same growth — available every week, from September through June, in the heart of Squamish. There is a moment every mother knows. You’re watching your daughter scroll. Her face changes — softens, then tightens — shaped by something you can’t see. A photo. A comment. A number beside a heart. And in the span of thirty seconds, something small and precious inside her quietly adjusts itself to fit a world that wasn’t built for her. We watch it happen and we don’t always have the words to name it. SWING exists because of that moment. Because your daughter deserves more than a filtered version of the world and the loneliness that comes with comparing herself to it. She deserves a room full of real girls — messy, brilliant, loud, tender, uncertain, brave — who look her in the eyes and say: I’ve felt that too. She deserves a weekly reminder of this :)

SWING VALUES
1. SISTERHOOD IS A SUPERPOWER It is not built in a single conversation. It is not found in a follower count. Sisterhood is built through accumulated shared experience — the check-in you thought was no big deal, the craft project you stayed late to finish together, the week you showed up sad and left feeling held. SWING is where girls learn that the women they will become are shaped by the women they surround themselves with — and they choose those women now. 2. YOUR VOICE IS YOUR MOST POWERFUL TOOL Before SWING, some girls have never been in a room where someone asked: What do you think? How do you feel? What matters to you? — and then waited, genuinely, for the answer. SWING asks those questions every single session. Not because we need answers. Because every girl needs to hear herself answer. Because a voice that is heard becomes a voice that believes it has something worth saying. 3. CHANGE BEGINS IN THIS ROOM Every great movement in history started with someone who decided: I don’t like the way things are, and I am going to be the change. SWING is where girls first try that idea on. Where they practice advocacy and empathy and the courage to speak up for someone who can’t speak for themselves. The tagline isn’t just a slogan. It’s a daily practice. It starts here, in The Den, this coming school year! 4. GRIT IS BUILT TOGETHER Resilience is not a solo sport. The research is clear and the camp experience has proven it over and over: girls who have strong peer communities bounce back faster, take bigger risks, and recover from failure with more grace. SWING builds grit the way it actually works — in relationship, through challenge, with people who cheer you on and help you up when you fall. 5. YOU BELONG HERE, EXACTLY AS YOU ARE This is the one. The one that makes a girl cross the threshold in the first session, not knowing anyone, heart beating a little faster. SWING is designed — intentionally, carefully, with every activity and every check-in question — so that by the time a session ends, no girl is wondering if she was welcome. She knows. She felt it the moment she walked in. SWING is a place where you are not too much. You are not too little. You are exactly what this circle needs. 6. REAL MAGIC HAPPENS OFFLINE Not in spite of the screens and the noise of the digital world — in direct contrast to it. There is something irreplaceable about sitting across from another person, making something with your hands, and telling the truth about how your week went. SWING protects that. Fiercely. Because the memories that shape a girl’s identity — the ones she carries into womanhood — are almost always made in person, with people she loves.

PROGRAM LEVELS
Level 1 — Seedlings (Grades 1 & 2) Foundations of Friendship, Kindness & Self-Love Every great leader starts somewhere, and she starts here — learning that who she is on the inside is the most interesting thing about her. Level 1 girls are at the very beginning of understanding their social world: what makes a good friend, how to handle big feelings, why kindness isn’t weakness. They play games that make them howl with laughter. They make crafts that go home proudly displayed on fridges. They answer check-in questions with the breathtaking honesty that only young children have — and they are met with warmth every single time. In Level 1, the most important thing a girl learns is this: I am loved and I am safe here. That is the seed of everything else. Level 2 — Rising (Grades 3 & 4) Building Confidence, Advocacy & Community She is starting to notice the world beyond herself — and sometimes she doesn’t like what she sees. Cliques forming. Friends left out. Pressure to be someone she isn’t sure she wants to be. Level 2 meets her exactly where she is. This tier digs into confidence-building: how to use your voice when it shakes, how to stand up for someone without becoming a target yourself, how to be a good friend in a world that makes friendship complicated. Girls in this tier tackle real discussions about peer pressure, belonging, and what it actually means to be brave. They leave each session a little more certain that their perspective matters — and a little more willing to share it. Level 3 — Leaders (Grades 5 & 6) Leadership, Resilience & Being the Change This is where it comes together. Level 3 girls are navigating the most complex social and emotional terrain of their young lives. Identity is shifting. Friendships are deepening — and sometimes breaking. The online world is louder. The pressure is heavier. And somewhere underneath all of it, a remarkable young woman is trying to figure out who she is going to be. SWING Level 3 is a space that honors that complexity without flinching from it. These sessions go deep. Into goal-setting and resilience. Into healthy relationships and the difference between being liked and being respected. Into what it actually means to be a leader — not the loudest person in the room, but the most trustworthy one. Girls who complete Level 3 don’t just know the tagline. They live it. They are the change. And the world is better for it.
What a SWING Session Looks Like
The door opens at 3:30pm.
She comes in still carrying the energy of the school day — a little bit loud, a little bit uncertain, already scanning the room. Then she sees a face she knows. She exhales. She sits down.
The Check-In
Every session begins with a check-in question. Not the routine kind. The real kind.
What was the hardest moment of your week? Is there something you’ve been afraid to say out loud? When was the last time you felt truly brave?
The room gets quiet in the best way. Because everyone is listening. And in that quiet, something shifts — a girl says something she has never said in a group before. Her voice gets small and then steadies. She finishes. And the room holds it.
That moment — that small, enormous moment where she realizes her truth is safe here — that is what SWING is built around.
The Workshop
Built around one of SWING’s core themes: anti-bullying, self-esteem, goal-setting, healthy friendships, grit, community, peer pressure, advocacy. Led by a strong and qualified leader with warmth and zero judgment. Not a lecture — a conversation. Full of questions and stories and the kind of honesty that makes a girl feel like she’s finally in a room that’s honest back.
The Team Builder
Because you can’t build a sisterhood without a little friendly chaos.
Games and challenges designed to get girls working together, problem-solving together, and laughing at themselves — the best kind of laughter, the kind that builds trust faster than anything else. By the end of the team builder, girls who weren’t sure they’d made any friends have already been each other’s lifelines.
The Craft
Some sessions end with a take-home creation. Something made with her hands that she carries back into her week as a reminder of what she learned, whom she sat next to, what she made here.
Because the best way to remember that you belong somewhere is to hold something you made there.
The Walk Out
She gathers her stuff. She says goodbye — loudly, warmly, with the slightly chaotic energy of girls who are not ready to leave. She walks out into the Squamish afternoon with her craft in her bag and something harder to name, but unmistakable, in her posture.
She stands a little taller.
That is SWING.
